Say ‘Cheers!’: Easy Cocktails to Try this Holiday Season

It’s December and that means a deluge of parties, dinners, and family get-togethers. We love it! Nothing spells a Pinoy Christmas more than food, family, and fun.

We asked some parents to share their favorite cocktails as they usher in the holidays. The results are in: we’ve got the unbeatable classics, plus a few fresh takes that we can’t wait to try ourselves. Here are some of them, in case you feel like being master mixologist for the night:

Mommy Sara, Cosmopolitan

“A Cosmo is the drink to have when I’m with my girls. Feeling SATC!”

Add vodka, Cointreau, cranberry juice, and freshly squeezed lime juice into cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake well and double strain into large cocktail glass. Garnish with lime wheel.

Mommy Cynthia, Merry Mojito

“The perfect drink to have while spending the holidays at the beach.”

Muddle mint sprigs and pomegranate seeds (optional) with sugar and lime juice. Add rum and top with soda water. For that festive touch, add a splash of pomegranate or cranberry juice. Garnish with a sprig of mint leaves. Serve with a straw in a tall glass with ice. Skip the rum and make it a mocktail for the non-alcohol drinkers in the fam!

Daddy Dennis, Old Fashioned

“Because I’m an old-fashioned kind of guy. It makes me feel classy and distinguished. And it tastes great.”

Muddle sugar with bitters and water, add your favorite whiskey, and garnish with an orange slice or zest and a cocktail cherry. Serve with ice.

Mommy Belle, Dark and Stormy

“Just like me. CHAR!”

In a highball glass filled with ice, add ginger beer and top with dark rum. Garnish with lime wedge. Do not stir, the rum should sit at the top of the glass and fall down naturally.

Mommy Joy, Tropical Aperol Spritz

“3-2-1, splash! Easy to remember, even easier to drink. F-U-N!”

Fill a wine glass halfway with ice, then add 3 parts Prosecco, 2 parts Aperol, and 1 part soda water. Add a splash of pineapple juice. Garnish with an orange or pineapple slice. Other tropical juices could work, too! Whatever you have in the fridge, really.

Whatever recipe you end up trying, don’t stress if you don’t have the exact ingredients on hand. Mix it up, substitute, taste, and enjoy! Tis the season to be merry and bright. Don’t forget to say ‘Cheers’!
